Frontier Trail knife

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the March 7th, 2010

Recently I completed a very nice frontier knife that was ordered and this is the perfect place for everyone to get a good look at it. The blade style is almost shaped like some
of the earlier style Sheffield bowies but at a smaller scale. The blade is over
6 inches long and is patina aged and has a slight forward clip at about 2.5
inches long. The handle is antiqued ash with brass pins and full checkering,
measuring out at about a scotch short of 5″. Sheath is antiqued full welt
hand stiched with a high ride wear.

I also added some new art work on my artwork page.

Custom Knife Ordering options

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the February 28th, 2010

If your new to my website or blog posts I wanted to give a little info on custom knife
ordering options. One thing I can do for folks that are thinking on ordering
a knife and have something special in mind is an emailed custom drawing. I have done
this for years, many who have ordered a special knife from me know this
but many do not. Having an art background helps in this. Below you can see
a sketch I did for a gent who described to me what he had in mind, I worked
a drawing for him and the knife is just about completed now.
Of course the sketch is just an option, many choose a custom hand forged knife
they like right from my website. http://www.mlknives.com

Hudson Bay “chiefs Knife”

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the February 21st, 2010

I recently completed a hudson bay knife and thought everyone would like
to see picures of this one. This is based off the original Hudson bay camp
knives. Also refered to as “chief’s knives” or the buffalo knife.
The handle is black walnut aged..the entire piece was antiqued
including the blade that has a very nice patina.

Leather hunting, fishing hiking, Possible bag.

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the February 13th, 2010

One of the things I always bring with me in the woods is my bag. Hunting, fishing,
hiking and so on. I made this one a long time ago and in the picture below it is still
set up for hunting. My hudson bay camp knife, loading block and capper right where
I can get to them easily and my essentials are inside.
It is time to lighten the load and do some touch ups on the bag for fishing. So I will
make this the first post until the project is done…The bag will get a new oiling.
A fresh new button. Rope will be removed. The inside carry will be cut down to bare
essentials and new fish kits for trout, bass I will be making.
I was once asked why I dont carry a modern style pack or bag, and my simple answer
to that is. The old time tested traditional stuff works the best and besides I love traditional.
Worked then and works now.

Past artwork

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the February 7th, 2010

One of the questions I am asked once in awhile is about some of the older
artwork I have done. Some would like to see it. So here is an older painting
of a deer I did maybe twelve years ago. It has been kept by
my wife since I painted it. This was done with watercolor.

Discovery Made

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the January 24th, 2010

I was going through some of my stock of lumber, exotic woods and handle materials
and I found a beautiful piece of material that I had purchased years ago.
Only problem is I never marked the lumber and now for the life of me cant tell
you what it is. I have become very good at identifying most lumber but this
one has me wondering. This is very dense wood from the feel of it, with no
visible defects at all. Very nice. If you have any ideas feel free to post or drop me a note.

Also I have added two new designs to the shirt store. These are both original
designs that I have created. You might like them have a look.

Square Sheath Carry

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the January 17th, 2010

I make allot of different sheath set ups and a handy way to carry small to mid sized knives is with the square style sheath. These style sheaths fit nicely into a pocket, bag, hiking pack, shooting bag and more. These also an be worn on the belt if it is set up with a belt loop. Great way to carry your everyday carry knife.

Draw string Leather Pouch

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the January 10th, 2010

For many years the draw string pouch has been used to carry many different items. I know these are very handy if you shoot or are into blackpowder. These hold ammo very nice and if you shoot traditional black powder you know there are allot of items we carry. There is a list of uses that these can be used for besides ammo. Coin or money can be carried in these as well as marbles, ear plugs, knock end’s for arrows, tobacco pouch, and these are great for carrying A fire kit or survival items. Flint, steel and tinder go very nice with these. I am sure if you are reading this you can think of uses for these as well.
I hand stitch these from leather I age and distress for the traditional look and feel, and the sizes are generally from 4 to 6″ wide at the bottom. Of course things that are custom made can be tweaked in many cases to fit a need or want.
