Past artwork
One of the questions I am asked once in awhile is about some of the older
artwork I have done. Some would like to see it. So here is an older painting
of a deer I did maybe twelve years ago. It has been kept by
my wife since I painted it. This was done with watercolor.

Thank you for stopping by.

Discovery Made
I was going through some of my stock of lumber, exotic woods and handle materials
and I found a beautiful piece of material that I had purchased years ago.
Only problem is I never marked the lumber and now for the life of me cant tell
you what it is. I have become very good at identifying most lumber but this
one has me wondering. This is very dense wood from the feel of it, with no
visible defects at all. Very nice. If you have any ideas feel free to post or drop me a note.

Also I have added two new designs to the shirt store. These are both original
designs that I have created. You might like them have a look.

Draw string Leather Pouch
For many years the draw string pouch has been used to carry many different items. I know these are very handy if you shoot or are into blackpowder. These hold ammo very nice and if you shoot traditional black powder you know there are allot of items we carry. There is a list of uses that these can be used for besides ammo. Coin or money can be carried in these as well as marbles, ear plugs, knock end’s for arrows, tobacco pouch, and these are great for carrying A fire kit or survival items. Flint, steel and tinder go very nice with these. I am sure if you are reading this you can think of uses for these as well.
I hand stitch these from leather I age and distress for the traditional look and feel, and the sizes are generally from 4 to 6″ wide at the bottom. Of course things that are custom made can be tweaked in many cases to fit a need or want.

New Custom Order Knife Page.
OK I have been working on a new Order page for the website. I have some new designs and one of the stag knife favorites that used to be on another page. I will be adding more to this page as well in the future. You can check on the New Custom Knife Order Page here.
Custom Order Page 3
I also made some slight changes on the web site to make navigation a
little easier. Up in the top left hand corner in Gallery One and some other pages you will notice
a drop down box with different options within the box. All you have to do is scroll down to where you would like to go and click on go, and thats it. This frees up options as well for something I have in the works for the future.

The new wood carving knife did a great job on the ash wooden spoon. The completed pic is below.

Finally I want to thank everyone for stopping by reading my blog and for supporting me, my family and my work. You all have a great Christmas and New Years.
Until Next time

First of a New Wood Carving Knife Design
Another new design I have been working on is the carving knife below. This is a handy carving and whittling knife. To give it a good try I rough carved a spoon from ash. Let me say ash is a very tough wood to carve so this really gave the blade a workout. The spoon isnt finished and still is rough but it is almost to the completed stage before final sanding. More info on the knife. Hand forged 1095 high carbon steel. Blade length is about 2″ long by about 9/16″ wide..the spine is about 3/32″ thick and rounded to reduce thumb fatigue when carving. The knife pictured below has natural grained curly maple that has been oiled. The cutting edge was finished by hand on a combination of japanese waterstone’s and stropped to a polished edge.
A special thank you to Functional art for all of the Spoon carve info..

Kephart Fisher
This is what I call the “kephart fisher”. This design is one of the knives that was carried by Horace Kephart. His fish knife. The design is very handy, compact, strong yet light enough to carry as a neck knife. As all of my knives everything is hand worked, including the Fish scaler at the top, each individual tooth is done by hand. The one shown below was the first one I made and sent to Brian Seargant from CA. Brian made some great videos, that talk about the knives I have made for him as well as a little info on Mr. Kephart. Thank you Brian!

Here are the specs and info on the knife if you would like to order one.

Knife Sharpening tip
I have been sharpening knives ever since I was a youngster. Ever since then I have used many different sharpening stones and techniques to hand sharpen a blade. Thought I would share a tip here that may or may not be well known. If you use an oil or wet stone of any type and dont use a “modern sharpening base” you can keep your stone from sliding around (which is very important) by placing a towel under the stone. You can also use the rubber line’r used for shelving that can be purchased in any dept store.
