Camp Knife added to order Option page
Here is a variation on the Hudson bay camp knife I made awhile back
for Mr. Luke Causey over on Woods Monkey. He did a great review on the
knife that you can see here. WOODS MONKEY REVIEW This version was made with wider
clipped blade and a rear ball end handle. I have added this knife to
the order page Line up over on special order page 2.

Special Order Kephart Knife
Here is a customized kephart that I had to post up here for
everyone to see. This is my standard kephart with a beefed
up 3/16 spine. The handle is carved stag buffalo horn and
has a very nice non slip grip. When completed this set up
will be horizontal style, with a ferro rod.

Rawhide Wrap repair
Yesterday I was splitting wood, and I ended up cracking the back end of the
axe handle. This was a perfect chance to use a rawhide tight stitch leather wrap.
After a little measuring and soaking the rawhide I tight stitched the rawhide to the
damaged area. It drew the crack together with no problem, and with this
rawhide will prob last longer than originally intended. The rawhide dried
up very hard and has no movement, the handle is very workable.
I left the rawhide natural with no aging, so it will age naturally.

Pictured below: Aged deer leg bone handled knife with a rawhide tight sticthed
leather wrap.

Original Belt knife project
I have decided to make the knife posted below. This is an original
knife dating back to the 1790’s and is an example in the book
“The knife in Homespun America” by Madison Grant. When I start I
will post updates on the blog here as I go along of me forging the
blade, draw filing and so on. When its done I will offer it up for sale
on my website, in one of the galleries.

Shop re-find…Original grinding wheel
Doing some work on the shop yesterday I made a re-discovery.
Actually remembered this has been waiting for me. An old
original grinding wheel. I would say (without measurement) this
stone is about 17 to 18 inches around. The face is in really
great shape as well with no major dings. I dont know the exact
age of the stone. It was prob a hand crank stone originally
and converted over to an electric mount set up when
electricity was in main stream. Hopefully in the future
I can get it mounted and post pictures of this original wheel in
use, or even a video. Enjoy the pictures.

Scagel style knife
This is a custom ordered forged Scagel style knife that I thought
everyone would like to see. Leather stacked handle with silver
and red spacers with a whitetail antler back end. Of course
I left a small amount of forge pattern on the blade and finished
off the handle with a light antiqued look..

Knife Sharpening Stone Update
A few weeks back I found an oil stone at an estate sale and posted up
here about it. I had a chance to clean the old sharpening stone up a
bit and give it a try on one of my wife’s knives. This oil stone seems
to work just fine after years of sitting in someones basement.
Pictures posted below.

Also wanted to post an update on the garden. It has done very well
this year so far. We have had very humid hot conditions, and the plants seem to love it.
Tomatoes, zuchinni, cukes, all doing well.

Knife Set with Iron Wood
I am currently working on a set of custom ordered knives.
One custom kephart knife with some slight modifications
and a carry knife. What I wanted to post here was
to show everyone the handle material. These were
ordered with Desert Iron Wood and the grain is very
beautiful and dense. Pictures posted below.

Everyone have a great Independence Day.

Knife Sharpening Stone Find.
I was recently at an estate sale. Whenever I go to one of these
I head toward the old tools, in this case I was in an older home
and there was a basement loaded with old table saws,
drill presses, hand tools, and more… As I was looking through
a cabinent I found this old oil sharpening stone burried way in
the back under bottles of nuts and bolts. This stone is about
8″ long 2″ wide and about an inch thick. Double sided one
coarse and one smooth.
This Sharpening stone is pretty dirty and has a fair share of dings
but I will do my best to restore it and test it out on one of my
personal knives. When I get this stone cleaned up I will post
pictures.
